:holly:(Christmas) cheer me up with your artful and thought-provoking holiday art and lit.  Submit them to Santa's Sack :santa:and I'll give the best ones a feature in the 'featured' gallery.

In the comments area below, feel free share the title of your least favourite Christmas song.  For me this would be The Christmas Shoes, for its overt and manipulative sentimentality.  Okay, this could be said of most Christmas songs, but somehow hearing the Christmas Shoes makes me feel like tossing an elf.;)

Cheers,

MsK

PS:  Best wishes to Qjyx, the founder of this group, who moved to Finland (or was it Norway?) several months ago.  She has closed her dA account, but it's possible that she may return someday.

i'm a total grinch! i hate them all, especially the attempts at modernising them with silly hip hop beats etc!
i think xmas is really tough on mums: we get all the end of year school crap, the running around & expense that everyone gets, & all the pressure from the elderly family folk who want us to buy all their presents for them & organize things if they can't do it!
i may well get out of a few things this yr though, because i managed to fall & break my arm yesterday while watering my mother in law's garden for her! ;-)

Oh dear! I'm sorry to hear about your arm! I sure hope it wasn't your painting arm.;) Anyway, I hear you. In 2004, when my kids were 5, 7, 13 and 15, I had shoulder reconstruction surgery. I usually start my Xmas shopping right after Halloween, but at that time, my left arm/hand (I'm right handed, but you need two for quite a few things, I realized) was still in a tight sling, and quite unusable until after the new year. No one seemed concerned that I wouldn't be able to put on Xmas... I literally cooked the turkey single-handedly. Two years later, I had double eye-muscle surgery 6 days before Xmas and cooked the turkey...blind. (The presents I wrapped that year looked a little 'different'.) I'm a single mom as well, so I had I just had my kids to ask for whatever help they could give. So, while I'd like to tell you that your arm will stop Xmas from coming... It probably won't.:/ It isn't easy being a mom. Xmas songs are just a reminder of the long list of things yet to do. Sigh.

But years from now, I'll have someone to water my garden maybe.

teens are immune to the needs of others, arent they! of everyone in our household, its the teen that still has to be nagged & reminded that this time she really WILL have to do her jobs, cos mum cant fix things later!
the single parent thing's tough: i did the first 6 yrs alone with 1 child, & it was a logistical (& emotional!) nightmare at times, so i hear you!

My spouse left 10 years ago, just after our youngest turned three. He pays his child support and takes advantage of most of his visitation rights, which has helped, but basically it was and still is exhausting and overwhelming. The teen years have been the toughest. The oldest two have made it through; I have two more to go. Ironically what has helped me get through the most is the kids themselves. They're all girls. I love them with all my heart and they give meaning to my life, even if I have to juggle four schedules, spend a good part of the year Xmas shopping and wrapping, and put up with messes or clean them up myself. The other things that got me through were my writing and my art... So many times, even now, it would have made sense to give up. But I have stubbornly held on. Being an artist is who I am and all I know. As for being single, I've never remarried in part because of my crazy home life. But I like being free to make decisions without consulting a partner or juggling yet another schedule or adding another name to my already long Xmas list.;)

My least favorite Christmas song is "I Wanna Wish A Merry Christmas" by Jose Feliciano. He keeps saying the same verse over and over and over again. It's the only one I go and shut off when I hear it. It's not a great song to begin with.

LOL! I know the song, Felice Navidad! It does sound like a 'broken album' skipping.

On CBC radio yesterday I heard a latin band playing traditional holiday music and it was beautiful with guitars and harmonies, the sort that may you want to hum along or get up and dance.

I pretty much hate them all. Way, way too cheerful.

What about 'You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch..." from the movie? Not much not to like about that song.;)
